DHA, short for Dihydroxyacetone, is the main active ingredient in all sunless tanning products. DHA is naturally derived from plant sources such as sugar beets and sugar cane.

• Exfoliate 24 hours prior to your spray tan with a basic loofah or wash rag. Exfoliation is the process of removing the top layer of dead skin from the body in order to create smooth skin that will evenly absorb the tanning solution. If you don't exfoliate, oftentimes your result will not turn out as good as it otherwise could.
• After showering DO NOT apply lotions, creams, oils, deodorants or perfumes.
• Shaving should be done 24 hours before your spray tan. Streaks may be an issue in your final tan if you shave right before. Waxing should be done 1-2 days prior, whereas sugar hair removal can be done right before getting a spray tan.
• Manicures/pedicures should also be done prior to your spray tan.
• Wear dark loose fitting clothes or bring some with you for after your spray tan.
• If you must shower right before your spray tan, make sure the water is NOT hot and finish up with an ice cold rinse.
• If you follow these steps properly, not only will it help the spray tan adhere to the skin better, but it will also allow for a more beautiful, long-lasting tan.

My top priority is for you to feel comfortable, so please wear what you are most comfortable with, whether it is a bra/underwear, swimwear, or nothing.
-
Avoid ALL water or moisture of any kind. This includes: sweating, rainy weather, and or tears. Anything of the sort will cause the solution to rinse away and will definitely cause streaking.
-
When showering after your spray tan, avoid bar soaps. A slow and even rinse with luke-warm water is best. Only use your hands to remove the bronzer, and focus your attention to your legs, behind your arms, etc. The #1 cause of streaking is that the bronzer was not rinsed off properly. When drying off, PAT yourself dry.
-
It is best to wait 12 hours AFTER your spray tan to apply lotion. Using lotion before this, especially in the first 8 hours, can disrupt and/or lessen the development of the spray tan. If used too soon, lotion may interfere with how the tanning solution takes to the skin and will possibly lead to unevenness in your tan. Moisturizing is the key to prolonging your spray tan, so moisturizing twice daily will give you the best results. It’s also important to stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water throughout the day.

Take another shower and rinse off again. If that doesn’t help, contact me for further advice.
-
Wait 24 hours for it to fully develop after rinsing. If your tan is still not dark enough, contact me so I can address your needs.
-
Try rinsing again, soaking in a bath tub, or sitting in a sauna/jacuzzi. These methods will help remove some of the bronzer to lighten the color.
-
NO! The most important thing to remember is that the solution does not contain any UV protection/sunscreen.
-
Yes, it can. The two main ingredients to avoid are oil and alcohol. Here are some brands that are spray tan friendly: Alba Botanica, Coola Suncare, EltaMD UV Clear (available in both tinted and clear), Babyganics Sunscreen, Color Science and Sun Bum. There are so many brands out there other than the ones I listed. Just make sure they are oil free and alcohol free. I also don’t recommend aerosol sprays. The propellant and alcohol in them can react with your sunless tan resulting in a faded or blotchy tan. The alcohol in them is drying to the skin and areas of your body can be missed when using an aerosol spray.
-
Yes, it will remove the majority of your tan and/or lighten it. Seawater, chlorine, and jacuzzis can accelerate the fading of the tan.
-
DHA is FDA approved and only penetrates the outermost layer of the skin. There is no evidence DHA is harmful. However, I do recommend that you consult with your physician first.
-
Yes, when you are completely healed, but please consult with your physician to be sure.

To help determine whether you can, I recommend scheduling a patch test prior to coming in for a full tan.
-
It is likely you can, but please contact me so I can discuss skin’s current condition.
-
Most of the bronzer will rinse off after your initial shower; however, during the first few days you may notice minimal transfer to your clothes, sheets, etc.
-
Please wait 16 -24 hours and make sure your initial rinse is done prior to your workout.
-
No, the tanning solutions I use are of high quality and will not cause you to look orange.

While the answer isn't the same for everyone, you can typically expect a spray tan to last anywhere from 7-10 days. A spray tan’s duration can very dependent upon your skin type, daily habits, and life style. To achieve optimal results make sure you properly exfoliate and prepare your skin before the appointment; also, make sure your aftercare involves moisturizing your skin and staying hydrated.
-
The best time to get sprayed before any event is 2-3 days prior.

After discussion about your individual needs and preferences, I will help you choose the best tone for your desired results.
